IMDB rating: 6.20 Plot: Jake Green is a hotshot gambler, long on audacity and short on common sense. He’s rarely allowed to play in any casino because he is a winner. Jake has taken in so much money over the years, he is the only client of his accountant and older brother Billy. One night, Jake, Billy and their other brother Joe are invited to sit in on a private game, where Jake is expected to lose to Dorothy Macha, a crime boss and local casino owner who can’t play for squat, but always wins because people are too scared to beat him. Jake isn’t afraid of Macha, and not only beats Dorothy in a quick game of chance, but takes every possible opportunity to insult the man. Jake and his brothers leave the game, and Macha puts out the order for a hit on Jake, who ends up working for and being protected by a pair of brothers, Avi and Zack, who are out to take Macha down. |

Nothing says practical like Glock. Millions swear by them, including lots of law enforcement.
They come in compact sizes and you can get good stopping power in the .40 and .45 calibers. You need to realize that compact and high caliber = lots of recoil.
You also need to reconsider the "light trigger." Light triggers = accidents in real world incidents when things get tense. Glocks have the virtue of having a medium trigger pull.

You can go to jail for having a concealed weapons such as a handgun. It is against the law. If you are worried, you ARE allowed to legally carry pepper spray and a taser I believe.
Pepper spray, taser, pocket knife are all good handy self defense weapons….legal too.
However, the most helpful weapon of all is your wit and street smarts. Don’t go into a dark alley with thugs in it or walk alone in lonely streets….knowing how to fight (karate) is useful to, but not against a gun ^_^

What you need is a 9mm .Get the 9mm beretta.. Note: .45’s are great for self defense and target practice.
Go here for a picture of the beretta: http://tibia.froyd.org/beretta.jpg
just look up beretta on google. Its a great gun!

It’s going to be tough to get the concealed carry permit in DC. They are really anti-gun there. And if you get caught with it not being properly licensed and permitted and all that you’ll get arrested, fined, and all that. TRY to obey the gun laws if you can. If you can’t it’s better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.
PS - The Glock will work great.
One more thing - with all due respect to LCpl Jack, it is NOT legal to open carry in the District of Columbia for anybody. It just recently became legal to even own a handgun in DC, thanks to the US Supreme Court. Read up on the requirements before you buy anything.

Congrats on getting accepted. I honestly do understand where you’re coming from. If you need a firearm to protect your life with I personally would tell you to go with a smaller caliber. As long as your not using a .22 caliber, stopping power should not be a problem. 9mm is sufficient. Many people say you need a higher caliber but 99% of people won’t feel the effects of a higher caliber until later after they’re recovering or the altercation is over. Don’t forget about ammo! Ammunition is becoming costly and this is the most expensive I’ve seen it in my life. 9mm would be the cheapest to maintain compared to .40, 10mm, .45, .380, or .357. Since you won’t be concealing it you won’t need to get a small or concealable pistol. It is legal to carry a pistol if you are 21 or older and it is NOT concealed. Although it may be legal you may not want to walk around a grocery store or walmart with one. If you would like a concealed carry permit, take a little ride to your local law enforcement office and tell them you want to apply for one. If your 21 or older with no prior offense you shouldn’t have to hard of a time getting one.
Firearms from Glock, Walther, and Berretta are reliably made, along with other companies. Models that I would recommend on using for personal defense would be:
Glock models: 17 (9mm), 22 (.40), 20 (10mm), 21 (.45), or 31 (.357). These are all the standard size models.
Walther P99. This is a 9mm semi auto German firearm.
Beretta 92. The firearm that is modified and issued to the USMC.
I personally own a G19 which is the Sub-compact model of the 9mm and the G31 which is the standard .357 model. I own a Walther P22 which is the .22 model version of the P99 which is the 9mm model. I am issued the Beretta M9 which is the Beretta 92 commercially. If you are needing a firearm to defend your life with, please use a respectable company. Don’t get a unheard of brand of firearms or one from a company that is known to produce other types of firearms.

Personally a major fan of Springfield XD as a carry pistol. I just find them more comfortable to shoot then a Glock. Whenever I’m back home I carry a Springfield Armory GI .45, it’s a bit obvious for concealed carry…luckily PA is also an open carry state so I’m covered either way. Not to mention if you for some ungodly reason run out of rounds you can just use it as a club
Also NEVER rely on shooting off as many rounds as quickly as possible. You should practice as much as possible so that you can hit a man sized target at 10yds reliably with every shot. Also always aim a bit lower (toward the gut/lower chest) as during high stress shooting you have more of a tendency to shoot high. It shouldn’t take you more than 2-3 rounds to stop an attacker. A medium trigger will be much more effective and also safer to handle.
Whatever you do stay away from 9mm as a defense round. a .40 or .45 is your best bet. A larger bullet will have larger cavitation and inflict more trauma, thus leading to a better chance of stopping an attacker.
A 9mm round may not always expand, but you don’t ever have to worry about a .45 round getting smaller.
Last but not least, take a safety course and if possible a defensive handgun course. A lot of idiots go out and buy a handgun and get a power trip, then if they get in even the slightest confrontation they blow it out of proportions in their mind and end up drawing when there is no real need to and ends up a big mess. A handgun is and should always be a last resort defense.

Glock, they beat everything in terms of reliability. Get a 9mm or .45 and you’ll be fine. Make sure you get a permit for concealed carry, you’ll get into a lot of trouble if you don’t.
